 LUSAKA U-17 GIRLS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE 2022 ZAMBIA SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT

Lusaka Under-17 Girls are the champions of the 2022 Zambia Schools Sports Association (ZSSA) Ball Games in football category after edging Northern Under-17 Girls 1-nil in the final played yesterday at Garden Park Stadium in Kitwe with the only goal of the match scored by Esther Simpamba.

Lusaka was the only team unbeaten throughout the tournament in 6 games winning 5 and drawing once and did not conceed any goals on their way to triumph.

Lusaka took over the Championship from the dorminance by Southern Province who were on song since 2017 as the new Queens from Lusaka are the National Champions scooping Gold Medal with Precious Phiri voted player of the tournament.

Lusaka Girls Coach Josephat Maimisa, a teacher by profession who won back-to-back championship with the Under-13 Girls in 2017, 2018 and 2019 was delighted to have been tasked to take up the mantle at Under-17 level and the Progress Sports Club gaffer showed class and experience winning the tournament as Lusaka Province Schools Sports Association (LSSA) was well represented.

The Lusaka squad which was led by captains Tefeoga Munene and Tionge Sambo showed character with most girls from various clubs featuring in the Lusaka Province Women’s League

School girls who are key players from Luyando Foundation, Football Chance, Progress Sports Club, Twikatane Queens, One Boss Lady, Misisi Queens, ZISD and Kafue Celtic Queens were equal to the task in lifting the name of Lusaka Province at national level.

The 2022 ZSSA Inter-Provincial Ball Games which are currently ongoing in Kitwe and coming to an end today after a tense 6-day busy period (5th – 10th August, 2022) saw the tournament taking centre stage after a 2-year absence in 2020 and 2021 due to the outbreak of Covid-19 Pandemic.

Margret Phiri (One Boss Lady), Tefeoga Munene (Luyando Foundation), Precious Phiri (Luyando Foundation – Player of the Tournament), Margret Chilekwa (Kafue Celtic), Agness Zulu (Progress Sport Club), Tamara Mtonga (ZISD), Tionge Sambo (Progress Sport Club), Justina Zulu (Progress Sport Club), Masela Sekeseke (ZISD), Cindy Banda (Misisi Queens), Saliya Mwanza (Football Chance), Esther Simpamba (Football Chance), Suwilanji Chibesa (Progress Sport Club).
